ROTUNDA
The Rotunda – a large reception area under a “starlit sky”
The Rotunda is the festive reception area in the Kurhaus. The wide staircase leads directly up to the first level of the three-storey Rotunda and the Gallery. The architect Friedrich Ohmann was so fascinated by the new effects made possible by electric light that he wanted to offer visitors a “starlit sky” by means of an arrangement of numerous small lamps. With its pastel-coloured columns of artificial marble, large mirrors and fine paintings, the area under the dome offers an elegant ambience as a reception and break interval area.
Glass leaf doors lead via a marble-white external stairway to the promenade. This charming area is used as an entrance for celebrations in the Kursaal.
